Our seven chakras are “energy organs” that are constantly processing our experience.
Every interaction we have over the course of a day is filtered and processed by these spinning vortexes. Each chakra has a particular interest in how the experience affects us. In a very basic nutshell; the Root is concerned with how the experience affects our safety; the Womb is interested in the sensuality or creativity of the experience; the Solar Plexus is interested in how the experience affects our position in the world; the Heart is concerned with where the love is in the situation; the Throat is concerned with how we express ourselves in a given situation; the Third eye brings insight and perspective to the experience; and the Crown is constantly monitoring our connection with our Source-Consciousness.
Once an event has occurred the chakras “digest” our exploits and metabolize what they will hold onto—integrating them into our nervous system where they become reference for our future experience.
While each chakra has its individual focus, they do all work together for a cohesive experience. However—like any exchange between partners—sometimes the communication can become a bit muddled and cohesion is compromised. (For more in-depth experience and understanding of your chakras you might want to check out the Self-Healing Session called Clear Your Chakras or the meditation Your Extraordinary Chakras.)
One sweet way to connect your chakras and support their intersystem communication is with an exercise I call Harmonizing the Chakras.
This is a quick way to tune into your chakras and help to coordinate them so that they are all vibing together. It’s a very relaxing exercise and easy to do. One of the keys to this exercise is using your voice to hum as you exhale. Your light humming sets up a nice vibration in both your physical and energy bodies (doesn’t matter what note). If you can do this outside, great, but if you can’t, no problem.
- Rub your hands, shake them off, smooth your hands down your thighs.
- Take a full breath in, exhale and feel your feet on the ground.
- Bring both hands over your pubic bone—one on top of the other. (This connects in with the Root chakra.)
- Take a full breath in through your nose, and as you exhale, do it with a little hum.
- Take a breath in and bring one hand up to the Womb chakra, exhaling with your hum.
- Inhale and leapfrog your lower hand from the Root up to the Solar Plexus, exhaling with your hum.
- Inhale and leapfrog your lower hand from the Womb up to the Heart—exhale with the hum.
- Inhale and leapfrog your lower hand from the Solar Plexus up to the Throat—exhale with your hum.
- Inhale and leapfrog your lower hand from the Heart up to the Third Eye—exhale with your hum.
- Inhale and leapfrog your lower hand up from the Throat to the Crown—exhale with the hum.
- Inhale and bring your lower hand up to meet the other hand at the Crown, touching your fingertips all together, touching your thumbs to the center of your Crown—exhale with the hum.
- Inhale and lift your touching fingers up above your head, exhale (with the hum) while sweeping your hands down through your aura, returning them to your thighs.
- Repeat if you desire.
This delicious little exercise connects all of the spiraling centers of intelligence that anchor into your central nervous system. As you tap into two chakras together and bless them with your presence and the vibration of your hum, you’re harmonizing these two “energy organs” which support their connection, and their process of metabolization. It will help clear the detritus (energetic metabolic waste) that might be bogging down your chakras, and give you a feeling of lightness.
